Care & Maintenance
Our hardware is made from solid brass, and each finish will naturally deepen and develop patina with touch — this is part of the beauty of living metals.
For daily care, simply wipe hardware with a soft, dry cloth to remove fingerprints, dust, or water marks. Avoid water, chemicals, ammonia-based cleaners, disinfecting wipes, or anything abrasive, as these can damage or alter the finish.
For Polished and Burnished Brass, wipe with a dry cloth; if you prefer to reduce natural patina, you may occasionally polish with Brasso.
For Antique Brass, Antique Nickel, Oil Rubbed Bronze, Weathered Copper, and Verdigris, dust gently with a dry cloth and avoid moisture or cleaners of any kind, as these can disturb the patina.
For Polished Nickel or Burnished Nickel, clean only with mild soap and water or ammonia-free glass cleaner, then dry immediately. In bathrooms or high-humidity spaces, wipe hardware dry after use to slow patina development.
With simple care, your Ellis Works pieces will age gracefully and remain beautiful for years to come.
Our wood hardware is crafted from refined species, selected for their character, grain, and longevity. Like all natural materials, wood carries its own life and variation — no two pieces are exactly alike, and that’s part of the beauty. Over time, the finish will soften and evolve through touch, just as our brass does. Oils from hands, shifts in environment, and everyday use will all influence the wood’s tone and surface. This gentle transformation is expected and embraced; it’s how the material develops warmth and patina.
Each Ellis Works wood piece is treated with our proprietary blend of oils, creating a light protective coating while preserving the natural feel of the grain. To maintain the integrity and richness of the wood, we recommend applying a light coat of linseed oil once a year — or whenever the surface appears dry. With simple care, your wood hardware will age beautifully and continue to bring warmth and character to your space for years to come.
Our glass hardware is hand-blown and assembled in our New York studio, created in small batches by skilled artisans. Each piece carries subtle variation in tone, clarity, and form — the natural signature of handmade glass.
Because of the sensitive nature of blown glass, these pieces are best suited for light-use areas and applications where the hardware is touched rather than pulled with force.
We recommend installing glass hardware on cabinetry, decorative millwork, and low-torque applications where the interaction is gentle and considered. For high-traffic spaces or doors that require significant resistance or leverage, we suggest selecting from our metal or wood collections, which are engineered for heavier daily use.
With mindful placement and simple care, your glass hardware will maintain its clarity and sculptural presence for years to come — adding a quiet note of artistry wherever it’s installed.
Our stone hardware is crafted from natural stone, selected for its character, depth, and timeless appeal. As with all natural materials, subtle variation in tone, veining, and texture is inherent and should be expected. Over time, stone will soften and develop character through touch and use. Minor shifts in surface appearance are part of the material’s natural evolution and contribute to its lived-in beauty. Each piece is finished with a light protective wax to help seal the surface while preserving the integrity of the stone.
To maintain the finish and protect the material over time, we recommend reapplying wax annually, or as needed depending on use and environment. With simple care and thoughtful placement, your Ellis Works stone hardware will age gracefully and continue to bring depth and quiet texture to your space for years to come.

Warranty Information
We warrant to the original purchaser that all Ellis Works hardware — including knobs, pulls, handles, latches, and other mechanical components — shall be free from defects in material and workmanship for the lifetime of the original installation, provided the products are used in a residential setting and installed according to our instructions.
This warranty does not cover finish changes due to natural patina, oxidation, discoloration, scratching, wear and tear, or any finish issues arising from improper cleaning, use of harsh chemicals, accidental damage, misuse, abuse, neglect, or installation not performed according to specifications.
Living finishes (such as unlacquered brass, bronzed finishes, or hand-patinated surfaces) are excluded from the finish warranty because finish aging is considered a natural characteristic of the material.
Brass hardware is made from traditional solid brass alloys used throughout the architectural industry. While suitable for residential and commercial interiors, it is not intended for use in potable water applications.
Warranty service is only valid for the original purchaser and requires proof of purchase (sales invoice or order confirmation). If a defect is confirmed, we will — at our option — repair or replace the defective hardware at no charge. We do not cover labor for removal or reinstallation, nor shipping costs associated with returns under warranty.
This limited warranty is void if hardware is altered, modified, improperly installed, used in a non-residential or outdoor environment, or cleaned with anything other than mild soap and water (or our recommended care practices). Ellis Works disclaims all other warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose.
By installing and using our products, you accept these terms.
