About Us

Who we are

Well-made hardware and functional objects for the home.

Drawing from a long history of craft, we create objects that are beautiful, built to last, and designed to be as considered as the spaces they live in.

Our work is rooted in artisanal heritage and shaped by the restraint of modern design. We design with care and refine by our team of industry experts with an eye for composition, balance, and material honesty to feel both current and enduring.

Every piece is made from solid brass, marbles, tailored grain woods, and hand-blown glass - hand finished in our studio in New York City. We collaborate with artists and designers who notice everything – from the weight of a pull to the edge of a bevel to the way a finish patinas over time – and keep the runs small and the prices considered because we believe good work requires both time and accessibility.

Our ethos is simple: make things well, make them beautiful, and make them last.

Where we come from

Ellis Island is where our story begins.

A place where generations arrived, with tools in hand and something better in mind. They didn't bring status or titles. They brought skill, craft and the belief that work, done well, could build a future.

One of them was our founder's great-grandfather, Elias, a name that would eventually give rise to ours. He made his way through Ellis Island in 1921, with the tools of his trade and a quiet conviction. He wasn't the first and he wouldn't be the last, but like so many he carried what mattered most: the ability to make, and the determination to do it right.

That spirit continues to shape our work. Not just in sentiment, but in standard. A way of thinking that values a commitment to restraint in design, clarity in form, and precision in the making.

What we do

Brought to life in Brooklyn.

Working out of our Brooklyn studio, we merge traditional craft with modern design sensibilities — shaping materials by hand, refining surfaces with intention, and honoring the beauty of processes that take time.

Our hardware is made in small batches and hand-finished by artisans who understand how metal lives in the hand and in the home. We work with materials that evolve with use — patinated and plated finishes chosen for longevity, consistency, and character.

At Ellis Works, we design objects meant to be touched and lived with, gaining personality over time while quietly elevating the spaces around them. Every detail is considered, every finish intentional, and every piece built to endure.

How we do it

Guiding Principles

Our guiding principles act as the standards we hold ourselves to. Pillars we can voice to our customers as well as ourselves. They reflect how we think, design and build.

01

We design with function and feeling.

We keep things simple for a reason. We build objects that feel quiet in the room but essential to it, shaped by restraint, guided by everyday utility, and made to last.

Drawing from a long history of craft, we create objects that feel as considered as the space around them. And we build them with the people who think that way too.

Our design approach is deeply rooted in historical context, blending modern methods with traditional craftsmanship to create pieces that feel both current and enduring.

02

We take finish seriously.

We offer ten finishes, developed and hand applied in our New York City studio to hold color and character.

Some are tonal and quiet, others catch the light. Some brighten a room, others disappear into it. But all are beautiful, functional objects, made to be used and admired.

Each finish is tested for touch, tone, and time. Not just to complete the object, but to help it age well: gracefully, honestly, and with use.

03

We celebrate quality materials.

Every piece is made from solid brass, European marbles, American woods, and hand-blown glass. We collaborate with designers who notice everything – from the weight of a pull to the edge of a bevel to the way a finish patinas over time – and keep the runs small and the prices considered because we believe good work requires both time and accessibility.

This is design built to be felt – not just in weight, but in balance, proportion, and surface. The kind that lasts through shifting styles and passing time.

Welcome to Ellis Works.
